The Lodekka design was first introduced in 1949, and represented a revolutionary concept to give a low overall height without the awkward low ceiling heights associated with conventional lowbridge designs.

Over 7,000 were produced by the nationalised Bristol Commercial Vehicles, for companies within the Tilling group.

This vehicle represents the final development of the type, incorporating a front entrance. It was new to Bristol Omnibus Company in 1962, and was used on country routes until withdrawal in 1979. Subsequently it was used to carry parties of Australian tourists on sightseeing trips around London, before being sold to a Yorkshire scrap dealer. It was reserved for preservation, and arrived at the Museum in June 1993.
