1948 FORDSON 7V HVP 167

ALBERT E. HUGHES

BODY: FORDSON CHASSIS/CAB, WITH WOODEN
DROPSIDE BODY
ENGINE: FORD SIDEVALVE V8 PETROL
TRANSMISSION: 4 SPEED

This vehicle was purchased new by Mr Albert Hughes of Stirchley, and was used to collect fruit and vegetables from the Vale of Evesham, for his shop in Birmingham.

It was the first Fordson in the City to have a 4 speed gearbox, as the 4th gear was an optional extra at £12. It is powered by the smooth V8 engine similar to those fitted in the famous Ford V8 Pilots.

When retired from active duties it had covered 61,545 miles. Returned to the road by engineering staff at Aston Manor Road Transport Museum, the 7V has kindly been placed on long term loan here by Albert’s son Mr Derek Hughes, who now owns it.
