1954 AUSTIN A40 DEVON

BJM 567

OWNED BY ASTON MANOR ROAD TRANSPORT MUSEUM

BODY: AUSTIN PICK-UP, CONVERTED TO ICE CREAM VAN
ENGINE: AUSTIN 1200CC PETROL
TRANSMISSION: COLUMN GEAR CHANGE

Based on Austin’s A40 Devon saloon, this particular vehicle was delivered to a garage in Kendal as a pick-up truck.

It was then converted by the garage to its present form of an ice cream van, and then spent most of its life in the Lake District.

It subsequently passed to the Agency Press in Leicester, who kindly donated it to Aston Manor Road Transport Museum in 1991.

Years of standing lead to the engine seizing, and work has now begun to remedy this, starting with the engine being removed for investigation.
