1950 SENTINEL ST4C

GUJ 608

BODY: SENTINEL (BEADLE) 40 SEATS
ENGINE: SENTINEL 6.08 LITRE 4 CYLINDER DIESEL
TRANSMISSION: CONSTANT MESH

Sentinel of Shrewsbury were pioneers of underfloor engined buses and lorries freely available to the open market in the early 1950s. Like many Sentinels GUJ 608 started life as a demonstrator. She was built chassisless, with her own make of body featuring a contemporary Beadle design.

She was sold in 1951 to Maryland Coaches of East London, who kept her for four years. After a further four years with Warners of Tewksbury she moved to Browns of Donnington Wood, Salop, who were the last operators of Sentinels in public service. Reseated and converted to one man operation in the 1960s, she was finally withdrawn in July 1971.

Purchased by Richard Gray in February 1972, she was thoroughly body-overhauled and painted in what represents the original demonstration livery. Substantial work is required to the brakes and electrics, but after many idle years, the engine now runs again.
