BIRMINGHAM TRAMCAR 107

OWNED BY ASTON MANOR ROAD TRANSPORT MUSEUM

Such is the enthusiasm of the Directors of the Museum, that they one day hope to see this tramcar as the prize exhibit. Amazingly parts for her are turning up from the most unlikely places. Some were dug up from a Handsworth garden.

Birmingham Corporation tramcar 107 was built in 1906 by the United Electric Car Company in Preston, Lancashire. She was withdrawn from service around the outbreak of the Second World War, after over 30 years service on the City streets.

Fortunately, unlike the remainder of Birmingham’s tramcar fleet, car 107 was sold for use as a summerhouse in a Bromsgrove back garden. Here it faded into near obscurity for half a century until the land was sold for a housing estate. In March 1988 the tramcar was donated by the owners of the land, Messrs David Payne Homes Ltd, to us here at Witton, for restoration to her former glory.

Help is needed to find or make parts to rebuild the body so that a tramcar can once again run on the rails of Witton Tram Depot. Can you help?
