1970 AEC MANDATOR
OCE 829H
| BODY: | TRACTOR UNIT, ERGONOMIC CAB |
| ENGINE: | AEC V8 DIESEL |
| TRANSMISSION: | MANUAL |
Owned by Mr. Neil James, of Stourbridge, West Midlands, this vehicle was supplied new to the Road Transport Industry Training Board, for driver training purposes, and was the penultimate of the last 16 V8s supplied (two others still survive).
It was sold on in 1975 to a fairground operator who used it to pull a semi-trailer carrying dodgems. It was sold for "preservation" in 1982, and subsequently had many owners who mainly did only cosmetic restoration.
The present owner purchased the vehicle in March 2000 and spent the first twelve months working on the cab. He then rebuilt and refurbished the engine, which was found to have one broken piston ring, one bent valve, worn cam followers and camshaft, one incorrect injector nozzle, a broken fuel delivery valve and excessive bore wear.
80% of all the work was done by the owner, but he has paid 100% of the costs. This has resulted in a spectacular vehicle restored to the highest standards, Well worth a look!
